Ever wondered what car companies dream up for the future? Well, concept cars like this one give us a peek into their imagination, even if they don’t end up in showrooms. Most of the time, you can’t buy them. But guess what? Mecum Auctions is offering a rare chance to snag the unique 2004 Lincoln Mark X concept! Picture this: a sleek convertible with a fancy folding roof showcased at the 2004 Detroit Auto Show. It’s got a powerful 3.9-liter V8 engine under the hood, perfect for cruising with 280 horsepower. This beauty’s heading to Glendale, Arizona, on March 8th. Don’t miss out on this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to own a piece of automotive innovation!
The Mark X sports a striking Atlantic Pearl exterior, designed to change subtly with the light. Inside, you’ll find plush leather seats in a hue called Lime Sorbet, which, despite its name, appears more like a cozy beige in the images.
Taking a glance at the Mark X’s side, you’ll notice its resemblance to the contemporary Ford Thunderbird. That’s because they share a lot in common, like their chassis and engines. The Mark X boasts a 108.8-inch wheelbase, just a tad longer than the Thunderbird’s 107.2 inches. However, it’s a bit shorter overall at 185 inches compared to the Thunderbird’s 186.3 inches.
Now, let’s talk roofs. While the Thunderbird had both a folding soft top and a separate hard top, the Mark X was meant to stand out with its retractable metal roof, offering a more upscale experience.
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time the Mark X has hit the market. Back in 2010, Lincoln auctioned it off, and it found a home with James Powers, a stylist who worked on the concept. He cherished it until his passing in 2023.
Now, Mecum’s auction is back with the Mark X, but remember, it comes with a bill of sale, not a title. So, no Sunday cruises just yet. But if you’re a Lincoln aficionado itching to own a piece of their history, you might want to book a ticket to Arizona pronto.
